It performs best in USDA planting zones 4 through 8, adapting well to full sun or partial shade in moist, fertile, or alluvial soils found along woodland edges, thickets, and stream banks. Yellow wingstem is also called "frostweed" due to the base of the plant forming beautiful "ribbons" of frost in the winter.
