The Majestic Bur oak has a “can do” attitude unlike any other oak in existence. It can thrive in the most fertile bottomlands and survive on the craggiest hilltops. It can tolerate the coldest of winters to the hottest summers- dry or humid. From the excessively high pH chalky soils of Texas to the super acid red dirt in Georgia, Bur oak can do it. It can serve as an incredible wildlife tree thanks to the low tannin white oak acorns, or work as a majestic landscape tree that your great grandkids will also be able to enjoy.
Contrary to popular belief, Bur oaks can grow relatively fast when planted on a better than average site- and stand a great chance of producing acorns before their tenth birthday if given proper care. Our rapid mast bur oaks come from several trees scattered across the Midwest that are heavy producers of small to medium sized acorns. These genetics provide cold hardiness to USDA planting zone 3 where it gets super cold. If you are looking for bur oaks with super large acorns, slightly later drop times, and cold hardiness in zone 4 and south, you should also give our Mastadon bur oaks a try.

a little early to tell

When i picked them up they were just 12 to 14 inch stems. They looked alive though dormant. Ask me in the spring! but everything ive gotten from mossy oak has been really good.

Burr oaks arrived in great condition

I've previously ordered Chinkapin and White Oaks from Native Nurseries and they are growing so well that I wanted to add a few Burr Oaks and American Plum trees. The roots of both the Burr Oaks and the plum trees looked so healthy. I planted them in early October in Zone 5b without any issues so far. I can't wait to see them grow. The other oaks really hit the ground running and are 4 feet tall after one year in the ground in less than full sun. I highly recommend the tree protection with stakes. They prevent browsing but they also keep the steady parade of wildlife from trampling trees and shrubs until they have had a chance to establish. Gast shipping and fantastic products.

Burr Oak

The Burr Oaks were only about a third of the size of the other trees included in my order. They were only about a third of the size of the past Burr Oak trees I orded previously. They arrived in good shape and I have high expectations for these trees.

Healthy

Burr oaks have the biggest nuts. Love the way the tree looks like a giant head of broccoli when it matures too.

Buy these tree with no regrets. They grow super fast... usually 2-3' in the 1st couple years in my area then they really start taking off after year 3-4.
