We like to call chinkapin oaks “mule” oaks, mainly to help us remember the scientific name, but also referring to their hardy nature and tolerance of the poorest of sites. Everything about this species is tough, except their acorns, which are considered a delicacy to wildlife. Just ask the mice at our nursery, who have an uncanny knack for singling them out amongst our huge inventory of acorns in storage. We now have to over-winter our chinkapin oak acorns in mouse-proof containers. Did someone say chinkapin oak was a slow grower? We planted a few ten inch seedlings last June, and they were between five and six feet before the first frost!! Think of our chinkapin oaks as candy-corn feeder set to go off for two weeks straight, beginning in late October.

Communication is non-existent

After placing the order, I very quickly emailed them, and told them I had ordered these by mistake, and asked them to substitute the much cheaper burr oak. Never got a response. Several weeks later, I received a shipping notice, and I emailed them and told them they need to check their email because I had already told them I didn't want these trees. They never responded to that one either. I ordered several other trees, but THIS is the one they ask me to review??? Decent quality trees about 15 inches tall,, but don't expect anything even remotely resembling customer service.

Amazing Trees

I ordered 15 trees (10 Chinkapin Oak & 5 Nutall Oak) from Nativ Nursery. When I opened the box all I could think was "wow, I got these beautiful trees for that price!" All 15 trees were nice size and very healthy. They came in a box but looked liked they had been freshly dug. I was so impressed. They were packed very well for shipping and survived the hot spell we weren't suppose to be having this time of year like it was real October weather. So happy with everything about my order. Thank you Nativ Nursery for selling wonderful trees at a price anyone can afford.
