For those of you who appreciate water oaks for their ability to thrive on just about any site and produce super heavy crops, you have to try a few seedlings from this Jumbo acorned cross with the prized Shumard oak. Hard to believe, but by chance this super rare tree grows right next to another large acorned hybrid red oak (water x nuttall oak), so some of the seedlings could actually prove be 3-way hybrids!
The parent tree seems to think it is still a water oak- based on its form and very heavy annual crops. However, the acorns are white meated and have the larger size and shape of a Shumard oak! The seedlings from this hybrid have performed incredibly in both well-drained sandy loams and somewhat poorly drained clays topping out at 6-7 feet in their first year! Although the gracious owners of this tree allow us to collect its bounty, we’re told to leave most for the deer so be sure to get an order in early if you want a handful of these dandies.

Great value on the package sale. Trees arrived alive and healthy.
I believe these trees are exactly what is advertised. You can see the traits of a young Water oak and Shumard in the leaves. The leaves look like they will be as long as Shumard but narrower because of the water oak trait. There were acorns in the packaging that they grew from that were medium sized between the parent trees.
have purchased many trees frm Nativ, and many types. Very happy with all except the shuwater oaks. only 2 of 6 lived past one yr. Other trees planted in same areas doing well. May have had a bad batch ? ALL OTHER VARIETIES ARE AWESOME and doing well.
