The small to medium sized acorns drop early to mid fall, but are often somewhat avoided until late winter when deer, turkeys, and other critters need that energy the most. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBlackjacks have very dark blocky bark, big shiny leaves that often resemble oversized water oak leaves, and unusual overall form, making each tree a conversation piece and worthy of inclusion in the front yard, scattered around the cabin or along the drive near the gate.
