We’ve discussed how hybrid oaks don’t always grow vigorously, but more often are intermediate in their traits between each parent. Well, this tree does both! Totten oak is a no doubt winner resulting from the marriage between swamp chestnut and overcup oak. Imagine a tree that is equally or more attractive to deer and other wildlife as swamp chestnut that can tolerate poorly drained soils better than swamp chestnut. If your property is low lying and all you have on your place is overcup and late dropping Nuttall oaks, then this tree is for you. Don’t hold back on this tree simply because your ground has good drainage, this hybrid actually performs at its best on moist, but well drained sites!

Acorn drop time usually coincides with the majority of other white oaks. Each of our parent trees have their own personality, but all of them have plump acorns that ARE NOT totally enclosed in the cap. Like most of our other specialty and hybrid oaks, we collect this rare seed by hand in remote locations, so keep in mind, quanities are limited.
